I don’t mind being alone for a good a part of the day theres plenty to do, plenty to think about staying out of harms way but when the evening shadows fall a shiver runs through my bones and I want to be with the one I love I don’t want to be alone when all else fails we can try a little love hugging and kissing, reminiscing we can try a little love when all else fails we can try a little love holding hands and understanding we can try a little love you may say, that’s easy to say easier said than done but I’ve found loves the other way round and the best way to get things done and once you do it, before you know it you’re gonna want to do it again and aint that the greatest thing about it it appeals to everyone when all else fails…….. its been said that loves a curse a terrible price to pay it don’t get better, it only gets worse and it never goes away but I know love itself needs love attention and tender care and I believe if you do it right you’ve got nothing to fear when all else fails…. words & music by George Bacon ã2003

for the very first time on a grey summers day I came to these shores not planning to stay through drizzle and mist I found my way and each darling detail stole my heart away I wandered and marvelled at beauty so rare from the shape of the hills to the toss of her hair and just when it all seemed beyond compare the sun came out over Ireland so I’ll write it and sing it lest I forget the ancient stone walls along fields soft and wet for there are no words for the feeling I get when the sun comes out over Ireland from Belfast City down to Skibereen rolling across this patchwork of green the most heavenly sight that I’ve ever seen is the sun coming out over Ireland and in this brave new century might no longer makes right and all people are free that’s the way we pray it will be when the sun comes out over Ireland so I’ll write it and sing it and if you’ll join in we’ll carry it with us through thick and through thin this song of hope that comes from within when the sun comes out over Ireland words & music by George Bacon & Jono Manson copyright 2005 Magic Request Music(BMI)/Cottage Pie Music(BMI)

like a child 03:42
was a taxi cab day all yellow and green bought a bottle of Beaujolais set out for New Orleans walked over bridges across the great rivers innocence a uniform a package to deliver like a child, wide eyed in wonder cries every time it hurts like a child, I cant help but wonder do you miss me like I miss you it may not be so foolish to a fool because he’s the first one to ignore the golden rule follow his instincts stay away from school be the person that he is instead of being cool like a child…. was only yesterday they were together making love in an empty filed talking about the weather who knows why it had to end no particular reason it seemed important then like a child…. words & music by George Bacon & Darren Wiseman ã2003

I never want to be your ex consigned to days of yore someone you once saw something in that you don’t see no more I couldn’t bear to toss and turn while you’re off with someone new and me become your used to be man a fool that you once knew I never wanna be your ex someone with whom you used to have sex who got swept aside when you cleared the decks I never want to be your ex I never want to be your ex the object of your scorn join the ill fated company of tenderness outworn so I prefer to do without the pleasure of your thrall that way when you’re not around I wont miss you at all I never want….. I never want to say goodbye strike out on my own I want to be in love forever and never have to be alone so I’m not going to be that person who takes what he can get a piece of meat, when you needed a treat the one whose name you forget I never want….. words & music by George Bacon copyright 2003 Cottage Pie Music(BMI)

ponytail 03:56
ponytail that first time I was about eleven across the aisle and back two rows just but a boy pondering heaven and blond hair pulled through a velvet bow and a flick of her ponytail…. so each week I would stare at her do anything to catch her eye she must have known but she never let on just walked away with her nose held high and a flick of her ponytail…. hair gathered, and held in a bow bobbing along, wherever she goes I became a fool for a ponytail….. a few years on and wouldn’t you know it a radiant beauty caught my eye sitting pretty legs hitched on a barstool looked at me with a wink and a smile and a flick of her ponytail…. so we started talking and years later we’re still talking and carrying on I love her so sometimes I hate her but she turns her head and such thoughts are gone with a flick of her ponytail…. hair gathered, and held in a bow bobbing along, wherever she goes I remain a fool for a ponytail….. words & music by George Bacon copyright 2004 Cottage Pie Music(BMI)

far across the ocean wide so the story’s often told there’s a land of peace and quiet where time is still and love is bold if you tread that holy ground each instant remains new the closest yet that I have found is in the arms of only you holding you close to me kissing me the way you do yeah tonight I long to be in the arms of only you in the arms of only you since I first beheld your face calmly regarding me you have never left that place deep inside the heart of me you are with me all day long no matter what I do and I know where I belong in the arms of only you holding you……….. like a play without a script like a song without a tune like a day without the sun I am nothing without you so now as the sun goes down and the work’s no longer new my body longs to rest awhile in the arms of only you holding you………….. words & music by George Bacon copyright 2001 Cottage Pie Music(BMI)

miles away 03:57
sometimes I wake up in a dream the prettiest face I’ve ever seen wise and serene smiling right at me then I dream I’m wide awake each part of me quivers and shakes and every corner of my mind is clear I finally stop wondering why I’m here miles away…. excuse me, I was miles away…. you sip your drink and your voice gets brittle you start spraying me with doggerel and spittle trying to tell me about someone I don’t know from a place I’m never going to go I know you love me that I can feel you sure deserve a better deal you’ve done everything you can more I wonder what it is you’re waiting for while I’m….miles away… excuse me, I was miles away…. I try to stay in the here and now keep my mind from wandering somehow pay attention to whats going on one slip and I’m gone I want to focus on what I’m doing the birds are singing, the cows are mooing clouds are drifting, the wind is blowing I start to stop…then I keep on going till I’m…..miles away excuse me, I was miles away…. words & music by George Bacon copyright 2003

about

The Whateverly Brothers are Jono Manson and George ‘Breakfast’ Bacon. They met in the early 1980s and have been firm friends ever since. At that time, Jono’s band, the Worms, were one of the most exciting R&B/funk bands playing regularly in NYC. George was new in town and immediately became a fan. When George started his own band, the Corn Flakes, Jono was sufficiently impressed to kindly offer to help record the band. Over the next few years, Jono produced several sessions for George, with the Corn Flakes and with Mumbo Gumbo (the acoustic band George formed with Joe Flood). When the Worms’ bass player, the inimitable Jerry Dugger, needed some time off, Jono asked George to fill his shoes, which George happily did for several months until Jerry’s return. And then there was the Dogs! Evolving from a number of late night jam sessions, the Dogs were literally a supergroup culled from the cream of NYC local heroes. The extraordinary and sadly missed Howie Wyeth on drums and sometimes piano, Jono on guitar and vocals, Neil Thomas on keyboards and accordion and vocals, Kevin Trainor on guitar and vocals (Neil and Kevin were the lynchpins of the uniquely wonderful Surreal McCoys), Joe Flood on guitar, fiddle and vocals, and George on bass, mandolin and vocals. Their one album is testament to their being arguably the most intriguing outfit to emerge from that whole scene. When George found himself back in England Jono and he continued to stay in touch and Jono has since included several of George’s songs on his wonderful albums. In 1999 they hooked up in Italy and did some writing and playing together. Then, in January 2001, Jono joined George in Copenhagen and the two performed nightly for a month in a downtown club. They also collaborated on a batch of new songs and come February, their gig being over, they hired some equipment and in an apartment on the outskirts of town, with their friend Soren Dyhr engineering, recorded “Global Toast”. Since then they have conspired to hang out at least a couple of times a year, in England, Italy, or Santa Fe, writing songs and making a handful of appearances.
This is their second album. 10 new songs and as bonus tracks, the entire first album! …22 tracks, all reared free range and organically in the hills of New Mexico…these songs will aid digestion, rid you of depression, reduce stress, combat heart disease, cure baldness, bring a twinkle to your eye and put a spring in your step….so toss out that old rancid snake oil, put one of these on the turntable, and let the musical elixir weave its magic…
