here's a little story about a man who had no name
the only family he knew were the blues, or so he claimed
he liked drinking whisky, smoking mary jane
sit on the porch, picking the guitar in the pouring rain
down in the swamp
day and night the rain keep falling
down in the swamp
so deep you cant get out
some days he don’t remember when the rain began
first it rained, then it rained, covering up the land
turning the earth into mud, turning the mud to soup
turning the chickens into ducks waddling around their coop
down in the swamp….
he got cabin fever, and he went into town
nothing much was going on so he just hung around
he played guitars, in smoky bars, he sang for a dollar or two
he sang about where he came from, the only life he knew
down in the swamp……
now there's a little cutie started following him around
she showed up everywhere he played, man she loved his sound
she said she’d like to spend her days playing the mating game
hitch her star to the flag of a man who had no name
down in the swamp....
